Wilted flowers and Morrissey

Morrissey photographed by Stephen Wright at the Free Trade Hall, 1984.

"I had climbed into the lighting at the side of the stage to shoot the pictures because I just couldn't get near the front and I remained there for the whole concert. The Smiths had played the Hacienda just a few months before and the whole stage had been covered in flowers. When they came back to Manchester for this gig Morrissey was waving dead flowers in the air and had some in his back pocket. The audience were going wild. The spirit was fantastic. Morrissey was almost schizophrenic, this quiet man going wild on stage. Give him a mic and some flowers and he's off."
